The full story
Project overview
GroutFix is a tile restoration business based in Addington, Christchurch, serving customers across Canterbury and South Canterbury.
The business was brand new, but the experience behind it was not. The owner is a BCITO-qualified tiler with strong trade experience, but the business had no established brand, website or online presence.
The goal was to build everything from the ground up and help people searching for tile and grout services find and trust the business.
The challenge
GroutFix was starting in a competitive local market with no Google history, reviews or existing customer base online.
The people who need tile restoration usually search for a specific problem — such as a leaking shower, damaged grout or tile cleaning — rather than simply searching for a “tiler”.
The website therefore needed to target these specific searches while giving new customers enough information and proof to feel confident making contact.
My approach
I built the website around the actual problems customers were searching for rather than treating tile restoration as one general service.
Each major service received its own dedicated page with useful information, FAQs, examples of completed work and a clear way to request a quote.
Alongside the website, I built the brand identity and set up the Google Business Profile so GroutFix could start building visibility and reviews in local search.
Key decisions
| Decision | Why it mattered |
|---|---|
| One page per service | Customers search for specific problems such as “leaky shower repair” or “grout cleaning”, so each service could target its own search intent. |
| Detailed service pages | Each page answers the questions customers have before booking, helping them understand the work and build confidence. |
| Quote forms on service pages | Customers can request a quote without leaving the page about the problem they need fixed. |
| Before-and-after gallery | Real completed work provides visual proof for a new business that doesn’t yet have a long online history. |
| Google Business Profile | Helps the business appear in local search and Google Maps while the website’s organic rankings are still developing. |
| Brand identity first | A consistent identity gives the new business a professional presence across the website, Google profile and future marketing. |
What I built
- Brand identity for the new GroutFix business
- Modern website covering the full range of services
- 10 dedicated service pages targeting specific customer searches
- Detailed FAQs for individual services
- Before-and-after gallery of completed projects
- Quote forms built directly into service pages
- Click-to-call throughout the website
- Google Business Profile setup and optimisation
- Local SEO content targeting Christchurch and wider Canterbury
The results
Within roughly three months of launching, the website was generating around 10–12 enquiries per month through quote forms and phone calls.
These are enquiries rather than confirmed jobs, so the final business value depends on how many convert into completed work. But for a business that started with no online presence, the website is now bringing in conversations from people who had never heard of GroutFix before searching.
The service-page structure also gives the business a strong foundation for continued SEO growth, with each page able to build visibility for its own search terms as the website and Google Business Profile gain more authority.
Common questions
Should each service have its own page, or one page listing them all?
Give each service its own page if people search for them separately, which for most trades they do. Someone with a leaking shower types "leaky shower repair", not "tile services" — and a page that is genuinely about that one job will always beat a paragraph buried in a list. The exception is when your services are really one job sold together, in which case splitting them creates thin pages that compete with each other.
How long does a new trade business take to get leads from Google?
Expect a few weeks to get indexed and roughly three to six months before the harder local searches start responding. A Google Business Profile is the fastest-moving part — properly claimed and completed, it can put you in the map results well before your pages rank. Anyone promising quicker on a brand-new domain is guessing.
How do you win trust for a business with no reviews yet?
You show the work. For a trade where the result is visible, a gallery of real before-and-after jobs does more than any amount of copy, because the customer can judge the standard for themselves. Alongside that, be specific about qualifications and be easy to reach — a named, qualified tradesperson with a phone number that gets answered reads as far safer than an anonymous business, review count aside.
What should a quote form for a trade business ask for?
Enough to price the job roughly and get to the property: which service, some detail about the job, and the address. Photos help enormously for restoration work, where the state of the existing tile and grout decides the quote. Everything beyond that is better handled on the phone or at the site visit, because each extra required field loses you enquiries.
