The problem

Eight years of good work and 600+ jobs behind them, but an outdated site and almost nothing to find on Google.

How I helped

A refreshed identity and a modern one-page site with their real Google reviews built in, set up to be found across Auckland.

Deliverables

  • Updated logo and brand identity guidance
  • Modern one-page site with every service laid out clearly
  • Real Google reviews pulled onto the page
  • Quote request form, plus click-to-call on every screen
  • Local SEO across the Auckland suburbs they cover
  • Google Business Profile updated and optimised

The outcome

The work they were already doing is finally visible to people who haven't been referred.

The full story

Project overview

Flora is a property maintenance company serving Auckland and surrounding areas, offering lawn and garden maintenance, gutter cleaning, roof and driveway washing, green waste removal and handyman services.

After eight years in business and more than 600 completed jobs, they had built a strong reputation through word of mouth. The problem was that their online presence didn’t reflect the quality or experience of the business.

The goal was to create a modern website that represented the business properly and helped more local customers find and contact them.

The challenge

Flora was relying heavily on referrals and word of mouth to bring in new work.

For someone searching for a local service such as “lawn mowing near me” or looking up Flora after receiving a recommendation, the old website didn’t give them much confidence or make it easy to get in touch.

The website needed to do two things better: show why Flora was worth choosing and help local customers find the services they offer.

My approach

I started by updating the brand and creating simple guidelines so Flora could present itself consistently across its website and other customer touchpoints.

For the website, I focused on the areas Flora actually serves rather than trying to target Auckland as a whole. The content, service areas and Google Business Profile were structured around the suburbs where the team works.

The goal was to build a simple website that makes three things clear: what Flora does, where they work and how to request a quote.

Key decisions

Decision Why it mattered
One-page website Flora’s services work well together, so one clear page makes it easy for customers to understand everything they offer without navigating through multiple pages.
Suburb-level local SEO Targeting the specific Auckland suburbs Flora serves is more relevant and achievable than trying to compete for “Auckland” alone.
Real Google reviews Showing genuine customer reviews on the website builds trust with both Google visitors and people checking the business after a referral.
Phone + quote form Gives customers two simple ways to enquire — call immediately or send the job details when it suits them.
Google Business Profile A complete and consistent profile gives Flora another important way to appear in local searches and map results.

What I built

  • Updated Flora logo and simple brand guidelines
  • Modern one-page website covering all core services
  • Real Google reviews displayed throughout the site
  • Simple quote request form to capture the information needed to price a job
  • Click-to-call buttons for customers who prefer to phone
  • Service area section covering the Auckland suburbs Flora serves
  • FAQ section answering common questions about pricing, timing, insurance and services
  • Local SEO-focused website content
  • Updated and optimised Google Business Profile

The results

Flora now has an online presence that better represents the business they’ve built over the last eight years.

Customers can quickly see the services they offer, read genuine reviews, check whether Flora works in their area and request a quote without having to search through the website.

The local SEO work is still building, as ranking for competitive Auckland searches takes time. The next focus is growing Flora’s Google review profile and continuing to strengthen its visibility across the suburbs it serves.

Common questions

I already get work by word of mouth. Do I need a website?

Referrals are where most trades get their best work, and a website does not replace that — it supports it. When someone is recommended to you, the first thing they usually do is look you up. A site that shows real work, real reviews and clear pricing turns that check into a call; nothing to find turns it into hesitation.

Should a quote form or a phone number come first?

Both, prominently. Some people will always ring, and a trade site that hides the number frustrates them. But a form catches the person browsing at nine at night who is not going to phone a stranger — and it arrives with the details already written down, which a voicemail never does.

How much detail should a quote form ask for?

Enough to price the job roughly, and no more. Property type, which service, and a free-text box covers most cases. Every extra required field costs you enquiries, and anything genuinely complicated is faster to sort out in the site visit than in a form.

Should my Google reviews go on my own website?

Yes, and it is one of the easiest wins available to a trade business. Reviews sitting on your Google profile only work on people who found you through Google; the same words on your own site work on everyone who lands there, including referrals checking you out. Show them with the reviewer's name and keep them genuine — invented testimonials are easy to spot and cost more trust than they buy.
